Enhancing Brisbane's airside safety with smarter pavement solutions
Overview
The Gable Roads are a critical asset to Brisbane Airport’s Airside Operations, providing essential access for Airside Operations Officers (AOOs) to carry out wildlife management activities around the runways.
The Gable Road along runway 01R/19L is currently in varying condition, with issues including:
Unsealed sections, presenting a Foreign Object Debris (FOD) risk when vehicles traverse onto active aircraft pavements.
Deteriorated pavement areas, requiring rehabilitation works to restore functionality.
Poor drainage, with localised low points causing ponding and flooding, which impedes access and limits AOO duties during and after rainfall events.
